The Sum of My Parts
This was my Winter Term project for my first year at Oberlin College. I had joined the Pottery Co-Op and was interested in being able to fully become a production potter for the first time, aided with the promise of free clay, glaze and firing. I aimed to make a series of functional work that ultimately weighed more than my body weight, to make me and my work more than the sum of my parts; Iād then give away all these pieces to friends and donate the rest to our annual fundraiser. I ended up making more than my original goal, surpassing it even with the weight of my overall bisqueware. I learned a lot in the process, improving my endurance, throwing skills and in the end had a better understanding of my intentions as a potter.
